Under the auspices of SCALE, in 2007 Scott County funded and led the installation of a 90-mile countywide fiber optic ring that directly connects schools, city halls, and other public entities to a high-speed digital network, which has also contributed to a number of economic development “wins” in a highly competitive environment.
Through this investment, the County entered into agreements with several private providers to enable the County’s fiber backbone to be used in improving underserved areas of the County. The estimated annual value to SCALE member entities exceeds $40,000. Regional launch, 2008.
